Relationship Therapy After Having Children.

When becoming parents changes your relationship.

Having children can change almost every part of a couple's life.

Sleep.
Time.
Money.
Sex.
Household responsibilities.
Communication.
Priorities.

It can leave two people who love each other feeling more like colleagues or housemates.
Perhaps you're having the same arguments over and over.
Maybe one of you feels unsupported while the other feels criticised.
Perhaps resentment has gradually built up.
Or maybe you rarely argue at all anymore because you're both simply exhausted and have stopped talking about what's difficult.

Common relationship difficulties after having children.

Understanding the pattern.

Often couples become caught in a cycle.

One partner feels overwhelmed and asks for more help.
The other feels criticised and becomes defensive.
The first partner feels even more alone.
They ask again.
The second partner withdraws further.

And the cycle becomes stronger.

The argument might appear to be about washing, bedtime or the dishwasher. But underneath it may be about feeling:

- Unappreciated
- Unsupported
- Criticised
- Rejected
- Disconnected

Behavioural Couples Therapy can help couples identify and change the patterns that keep conflict going.
Couples may struggle with:

- Resentment
- Communication
- The mental load
- Unequal responsibilities
- Parenting differences
- Loss of intimacy
- Reduced sex or affection
- Feeling disconnected
- Repeated arguments
- Difficulty making time for each other
- Conflict around extended family
- Feeling more like housemates
-Adjusting to changes in identity after becoming parents

You don't have to be considering separations to benefit from couples therapy.

How I work with couples.

I'm trained in Behavioural Couples Therapy., alongside my CBT and person-centred counselling training.

Sessions are collaborative and structured around understanding your relationship patterns and developing practical ways to communicate and reconnect.

The aim isn't to decide who is right.

It's to understand what's happening between you and to work towards healthier patterns.

If you've become stuck in the same arguments or feel increasingly disconnected from your partner, you can book a free online consultation.
